World Premiere of 'Briefly it enters' by Jessica Curry
The London Oriana Choir were delighted to premiere Jessica Curry's second commission as five15 composer-in-residence at its concert at St Clement Danes, Strand, last night. 'Briefly it enters' is a setting of a poem by American poet and translator Jane Kenyon. Jane published four collections of her poetry and translated twenty poems from the Russian of Anna Akhmatova. She was New Hampshire’s poet laureate when she died from leukaemia in 1995. The piece is scored for four-part chorus, piano and percussion ensemble (10 players), and was performed alongside Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and pieces by Fanny Hensel and Jan Magne Forde.
